Yardley completed their league programme in the Warwick printing Hockey league, West Midlands Division 1 against already promoted, Bloxwich.

The visitors were not realistically expecting to gain much from this game. And so it worked out. However, Yardley did create a chance in the first minute but the shot from Munib Altaf just went wide. Bloxwich then took over and showed just why they have deservedly gained promotion this season, scoring over 100 goals in the process. Their efficient organisation and dominating play gave Yardley very little chance.  In spite of some excellent saves by the Yardley keeper, Neal Makepeace, it was no surprise that Bloxwich stormed to a 6-0 lead by half time.

With the game well and truly won, the home side could afford to take their foot off the throttle somewhat and allow their visitors a little more of the game with only two more goals added. During the break Yardley had made some tactical changes to their line-up and managed to make the second half a little more even. They almost managed a consolation goal but Zach Jarvis’ shot on goal from a short corner was saved .

The final score was a fair reflection of Bloxwich’s fine season with them proving to be worthy Champions. Yardley will take some comfort especially from their gritty second half performance in  this game and from the second half of the  season where, by and large, they have given a good account of themselves with many close games. Their young players have had to develop quickly but have shown good potential for the future.
