Score 1 – 5

This was a rearranged game in the Warwick Printing MRHA West Midlands Division 1. The original game having been frozen off in January.

In spite of being without their influential skipper, Yardley started off brightly and took the game to their opponents at every opportunity. However, promising early chances were not put away and the visitors gradually found their way into the game. Slightly against the run of play, Droitwich edged into the lead from a short corner. The visitors seemed to grow in confidence after this and added to their lead before half time when a hopeful cross into the D deflected off the keeper’s pads into the net. Both teams continued to create chances but Yardley will feel disappointed to be behind at the break.

At the start of the second period, both teams continued with their attacking approach but with Droitwich looking most likely to score again. Midway through the half a Droitwich attack was not cleared and this led to goal number 3. A fourth was added when a shot from a short corner was partially saved by the keeper but was eagerly pounced on and put away in the follow-up. Yardley continued to press forward whenever possible and was when a promising attack broke down and led to a Droitwich breakaway that Yardley’s defence could not cope with and a fifth goal added.

Yardley eventually gained some small consolation, late on when Alex Makepeace’s crisp shot from a short corner gave the visiting keeper no chance.

Droitwich will be delighted to have completed their season on a high while Yardley will be disappointed with their performance. They have one more chance to salvage something from their season when they visit Newtown this week in another re-arranged game.
