After a blank week Yardley crashed back into action in the Warwick Printing MRHA West Midlands Division 1 against Kings Heath Pickwick. After a fairly even start, Pickwick began to exert pressure on their less experienced opponents and scored two goals in quick succession. This buoyed the home side and seemed to knock Yardley off their stride. Kings Heath continued to increase their dominance and Yardley’s youngsters began to increasingly lose their way. Excellent running off the ball led to three more goals arising from slack defence. Pickwick also made good use of ariel balls that their visitors just could not cope with and two more goals were scored near the end of the first half.
Whatever was said during the half time break helped to jolt Yardley into their game and they began to give a much better account of themselves albeit without any great direct threat. Numerous runs into the opponent’s 23m caused the home defence to dig deep to defend the attacks. Captain Zach Jarvis ably assisted by DJ and Jeevan did their best to inspire their side’s efforts. However, Pickwick netted three more goals before the end to complete a comprehensive victory. Yardley’s youngsters found the whole afternoon a steep learning curve but can take some heart from their second half spirit.
Things will not get any easier over the next couple of weeks, starting with a tough game against the early league leaders, Wolverhampton.
