The league set-up this season, meant that Yardley had to play Wolverhampton again last week in the Warwick Printing MRHA West Midlands Division 1. After the previous week’s spirited performance in restricting the leaders to just a couple of goals, it remained to be seen what would happen playing away against the same team.

Right from the start it was plain that it was going to be a different story. Yardley struggled to get out of the blocks, conceding two early short corners from which Wolverhampton capitalised to take a two-goal advantage. Yardley made an attempt of their own also with Zach Jarvis and Noor Zaman combining and Jeevan Chagger getting a shot away on goal but which didn’t really trouble the keeper.  Yardley’s cause was not helped with a player spending five minutes on the side after receiving a yellow card. Wolverhampton continued to take control of the game, scoring three further goals in the first half. Back to full strength, Yardley pressed and were able to score their first league goal of the season. Zach Jarvis sent a ball to Tahir on the right by-line, who slipped it across the goal to Noor who made no mistake at the back post, scooping the ball into the roof of the net.

During the second half Yardley looked much brighter with Ubaydah Iqbal carrying the ball forward well from left back and Kyle Francis finding space on the right flank. Much of this half was an entertaining one in front of the Yardley goal, with the defence keeping Wolverhampton at bay for as long as they could before finally conceding two more goals before the end.  Near the end Yardley had a good chance the reduce the arrears but the home defence managed to clear the danger.

This had been a tough but entertaining game against the league leaders. This week, Yardley are at home to Leamington.
