The second half of the Warwick Printing MRHA Hockey League Division 1 began with another hefty defeat for Yardley.
The game began brightly enough with both teams probing for openings. Old Wulfs almost scored an early goal but to Yardley’s relief the attempt was cleared off the line. Yardley themselves almost got something from a promising attack. A good ball into the D just could not be brought under control for an attempt on goal. At this stage, Yardley were more than holding their own, but about half way through the half Old Wulfs edged into the lead. A ball into the D was well met and swept into the goal, giving the keeper no chance. Old Wulfs then began a period of enjoying the upper hand and from a short corner follow up scored their second before half time.
Both teams began the second half as they did the first, but it was the visitors who looked the more likely to score again. Yardley were endeavouring to be more positive in their build up, but their progress was halted by another goal. A fed into the D from inside the 23 was met with a simple tap in. Yardley’s half chances were not really causing much threat whilst the keeper was often in action. A fourth goal followed before two late short corner follow-ups added to a comfortable win.
Yardley played with plenty of spirit and kept going but it’s going to be a long and hard second half to the season for them.
