Yardley turned out for their first home league game with much the same squad as in the previous weeks to date However, they were missing their influential skipper, Alex, through injury, but pleased to welcome back Zakariyya.
Bournville began the game as if they meant business and within the first five minutes had scored through a penalty flick after a foot infringement on the line. Worse was to follow as their constant early pressure forced a series of short corners from which two more goals were added. As Yardley were beginning to settle into their game another foray by Bournville forward down their right wing led to a cross and a simple tap in, for 4-0.
Yardley kept their heads high and began to force their way forward. A positive attack led to Jeevan forcing his way into the D and firing home a fierce shot to reduce the arrears. Enjoying more of the play, Yardley continued to create some good chances. Just before half time, good attacking by Kyle led to a ball through to Jeevan who made no mistake to score his and his side’s second.
After this spirited come-back, Yardley still felt well in the game at the break.
Yardley made steady start to the second half creating more half chances. Not to be outdone, Bournville worked to get back into the game, forcing Neal into action several times.
More good work by Jeevan set up Kyle, whose shot was just wide. For the remainder of the game, Yardley kept diligently to their task but could not reduce the arrears any further. However, they did remain solid in defence, not allowing their visitors to gain any further advantage.
In the end, a fair enough result after such a torrid start, but also leaving much to ponder over as the team head for their next game, away at Droitwich Spa, the early pace-setters in the league.
