CoB M1s welcomed Edgbaston M6s in what was their final Home Game of 2021. With absences from the side, the team fielded a squad of only 11 players rather than its usual 12. CoB started off brightly with early exchanges in midfield between both teams. Few chances early on going wide. With the home side pressing and enjoying much of the possession, they forced the visitors into mistakes, Noor clinching the ball 4 yards out from a defensive hit across goal, the defender diving to tip it wide. Chances continued and it was Abrar who opened the scoring in the 17th minute, a reverse neatly into an open net. The hosts continued to attack with Jeevan playing in Abrar who won a penalty flick, Skipper Alex stepping up but an easy save for the visiting keeper. The visitors pressed the defence, but Jordan, David and Mat did well to ensure Neal wasn’t tested. CoB went on the attack again, with Jordan’s ball finding the midfield who played in Junaid, making no mistake and slotting in back post from his shot at the edge of the circle just before the break. 2-0 at the break. It would seem that the performance was a good one, but comparatively below par from the team’s recent performances.
The visitors started off the second half strongly, but it was the hosts who mounted the pressure. Jeevan and Abrar worked the space on the left well with Zach finding himself unmarked and slotting home an easy third. There was a moment of slight confusion on the restart, CoB winning the ball and Alex launching an aerial upfield to Noor, coming off the defender and let into the goal. After deliberation between umpires the goal did not stand. On the front foot, 2 minutes later CoB charged forward on the attack, Abrar on the left in space hitting clean a reverse past the keeper for his second. Kyle, Zach and Alex continued to pump balls in with Noor getting round the keeper and lifting the ball at goal, deflecting off Jeevan’s elbow on its path in, no goal. Abrar completed his hattrick quickly soon after, winning the ball and playing a 1-2 with Jeevan to push the ball into the far post 5-0 the score. Junaid and David enjoyed the space on the right flank, finding Abrar again who got his 4th making it 6-0. The win was rounded off with a 7th goal, Junaid battling on the byline to find Kyle yards from the goal sweeping in to get his season underway on the scorers’ list.
At the end of the game, the umpires had recorded for only 6 of the goals the team scored and respecting what they had accounted the team won 6-0 despite scoring 7. Next week they are away to Harborne 5ths
