This was a top v bottom situation. CoB wanted to win to maintain top spot and hopefully to give their goal difference a bit of a boost. Having beaten the same opposition by a big score last time, it was no guarantee for this game.
However, CoB set off eagerly and almost their first foray into the opposition half saw a first shot on goal rebound clear off the post. Blossomfield set off with their own early attack, forcing two short corners and calling Neal into making a great save. Although the visitors were making the home side work hard. CoB did enjoy more pressure but calling the visiting keeper into desperate action. It was not long before the CoB pressure turned into a goal. Great work by Kyle along the right flank and a cross into the D, enabled Junaid to put a way a simple enough tap-in. Further good chances by Noor and Kyle almost led to additions to the score. A second goal soon came courtesy of good work by Noor. A Blosomfield player earned a green card for a foul on Kyle. Although the visitors continued to work hard themselves, causing Neal into action on several occasions, it was not long before CoB added a third after Ash made good progress along the left flank and caused havoc in the Blossomfield D before following up his own good work to put the ball into the net. On the half-hour mark Alex added his team’s fourth when an excellent follow up from a short corner. Then, close on half-time, another good run forward by Kyle, saw him put in a great cross that was only partially cleared and Junaid made sure of his team’s 5th goal.
A good lead at the break gave the onlookers plenty to smile about.
CoB contined in much the same way early into the second period which saw a fierce shot on goal by Alex was well saved by the keeper. Alex was soon in action again scoring his team’s 6th. Blossomfield were clearly rattled by what was going on around them and they were making life even more difficult for themselves with frequent questioning of the umpire’s decisions. It continued to be mainly one-way traffic towards the visitors’ goal. CoB’s 7th came via excellent work from Sohail who finished off his work in the D.
Arguably one of the best goals of the afternoon was the 8th. Brilliant inter-play between Jeevan and Kyle saw Jeevan put in a superb through-ball that was picked up by Kyle and clattered into the goal to complete an excellent afternoon’s effort and maintain that top spot.
The whole squad of 13 players played their part, inter-changing positions smoothly and with no seeming effect of the fluency of play. I know that the opposition were well beaten, but the manner of their losing left a lot to be desired.
The run-in to the end of the season sees some tough games coming up, starting with Barford Tigers away next week.
