With games running out, it remained very tight at the top of the Division. With 2nd playing 3rd elsewhere, it was up to CoB to consolidate their position in the top spot.
CoB set off on the attack right from the start, giving their visitors plenty to think about. It was not long (in fact about 5 mins) before the first goal arrived. Zach brilliantly cleared a visiting attack and set off up-field with the ball. Ash continued the move and his ball into the D was collected by Jeevan, whose shot on goal was touched in by Noor. CoB continued to enjoy the greater possession and pose greatest threat. Kingswinford managed rare attacking moves forward, but their efforts were well snuffed out by a competent home defence. A quarter of an hour in and goal number two arrived. Another great attacking breakaway move after the breakdown of a visiting short corner, saw Jeevan put in a great shot to increase his side’s lead. Jeevan was instrumental in the third goal too. His cross found Noor who scored his second and his team’s third. Cob continued to press on with some good options being made to create more chances. Eventually the visitors found a way through to reduce the arrears. Nearing the end of the half there was a flurry of goals. The ever-lively Kyle surged forward and crossed the ball in to Noor, who made no mistake to complete his hat-trick. Then Noor capped a fine first half by finishing off a short corner routine. Right on half time, Kingswinford pulled another one back from a well-taken short corner.
5-2 at half time and CoB were well on their way, but their visitors were looking dangerous at times.
The second half began with CoB on the front foot right from the start. Zach made a great run forward into the D only to see his shot just wide. All the home midfielders were taking it turns to make positive runs forward, continuing to put the visiting defence under great pressure. On one occasion Alex burst into the D only to be felled by defender. Alex himself took the resulting penalty flick only to see it well saved by the keeper. In spite of all the positive pressure, no more goals came until near the end when Kyle’s super run down the right combined well with Junaid who cleverly weaved his way deep into the D before firing in a great shot for the final and sixth goal.
This proved to be another excellent team performance. All thirteen squad members play their part and helped to achieve another very valuable three points. Congratulations to Noor, our very own ‘Haarland’, on his four goals.
Next week sees a tough away double-header. On Saturday the team is away to Bournville 3rds lying in 2nd place. On Sunday there is the re-arranged away game against Barford Tigers. It’s still all to play for!!
