CoB Men’s 1stXI 3-2 Olton & W Warwicks Men’s 4s
Goalscorers: Alex Makepeace, Noor Zaman, Kyle Letts
After a spell of the last three games without scoring a goal, CoB came into this game wondering what was in store for them in this game, especially as they were missing two of their usually more influential players, for differing reasons.
After a fairly-even start with both teams creating some early chances, it was the visitors who scored first. A first attempt on goal was partially saved, but the rebound was put away for an early lead.
CoB gradually got themselves back into the game, with the midfield showing increasing confidence and setting up several chances on goal. However, Olton looked dangerous every time they attacked but were unable to really threaten any more goals.
Eventually, the CoB pressure told and skipper Alex scored an impressive goal to level up the scores. Further chances were created: one being when Noor surged on goal from a great through-ball by Solhail only to see his effort go just wide. CoB continued to work hard but good chances from Junaid and Alex and Sean were not able to be put away. The visiting keeper was having to work hard to keep out other chances.
At half-time the scores remained level. The first half having seen some good approach play, some sound defence and generally the better of the balance of play.
CoB started the second half on the prowl right from the off and edged ahead when Noor scored a brilliant goal. Some excellent approach play saw the ball reach Noor in the D. He cleverly controlled the ball and smashed it into the goal, giving the keeper no chance.
Olton worked hard to get back into the game but CoB were generally in control. Kyle had several good runs forward from midfield, setting up more chances. More good approach play from Alex, then Noor set up Kyle for him to score a super goal to increase his team’s lead.
For some reason this situation seemed to inspire the visitors to put in a good passage of play which saw them pull a goal back.
CoB roused themselves for a good finish, creating many more chances, but no more goals.
In the end a good win, a reflexion of a good team performance. Next week sees a visit to Bournville who are currently top of the league!
