A first outing of the season for the 2nds was a chance to get back into playing again after the summer break. With nowhere near a full-strength team, it was a good opportunity for those in the squad to get back into the swing of things.
Both teams made a steady start and worked hard to create chances. CoB enjoyed plenty of forward play through some good possession. Newcomer, Jamie at left back was creating a good impression with his pace and a willingness to get his tackles in. On the other side of the pitch, skipper Edan, was also busy with his steady defensive work.
Bloxwich too were increasingly getting their game together and mid-way through the half mounted an attack which led to the first goal. The visitors continued their positive attacking play. Jack, in goal, was increasingly called into action. Another good chance just hit the post and rebounded clear. A speedy run along the left wing by Jeevan saw him get a cross into Stan who was just unable to gather it to get in a shot.
Bloxwich scored their second through a well-taken attempt on goal through a short corner. Shortly afterwards, another short corner led to a third goal and a handy lead to take into half time. CoB were certainly feeling rather rusty but making good use of the rotation of subs.
CoB made a promising start to the second half. Owen was working hard in midfield and Stan pushing forward as often as possible. Jeevan made several attacking runs along the left wing. However, yet another short corner routine led to Bloxwich’s fourth. To their credit CoB worked hard but were unable to create cause much trouble in the opponents’ D. Two more late goals sealed an unhappy start to the season.
Skipper Edan would have been pleased to have just got the season under way. He will hope to get more squad members available next week to entertain Atherstone Adders 4ths before the league campaign begins.
