CoB travelled away to Wednesbury this weekend, fielding a strong team with a new debutant Asif arriving at half time. CoB started off strongly against a 9-man Wednesbury who were waiting for a few additions to bolster their team. The visitors started off brightly with an early opening allowing Ben to open the scoring. The team kicked into gear, with Edan latching onto a loose ball and finding Kong, playing in Isa on the right wing. A great run and exchange with Ben allowed Isa to direct the ball across goal for Owen to latch onto a shot, 2-0. The lead was soon comfortable with Zee finding the goal and making it 3-0. The team showed good discipline in the first half with good shape and communication, though were down to 10 late in the half after Stan received a yellow card which continued into the new half.
A debut at the break and Asif entered the fray with much valued game time, fresh from an absence in hockey having signed for the club only a few days prior. The hosts were revitalised now up to a strong 11, giving a game to our players, holding the ball and making them work to earn possession that they had earlier dominated. Stan’s return to the field provided a lift, Stan winning the ball at the half way before waltzing past 5-6 players and slotting home a needed 4th to get the team back into gear. Lots of exchanges of the ball with the midfield of both teams tested. Anthony had two opportunities which were not to be, before Matt sustained an injury that saw him substitute off. Another game with much-needed time on the field, this team showing great promise for the future.
