An afternoon away game after a week break and key absentees would always make this a difficult game.
CoB travelled with an XI to Droitwich with Skipper Zach absent from this weeks game. VC Kyle stepped in to skipper the side. The game started off with a Droitwich player taking the whistle, with agreement of both captains as a late drop up meant Droitwich were waiting on a reserve to arrive for half time. CoB didn’t grasp the game early on with a succession of short corners and defensive work allowing Droitwich to make use of opportunities they created and taking an early 2-0 lead. CoB battled hard with Kyle and Junaid holding strong to help soak up the pressure. The back line of Frank, Mat and Sohail were strong, but lacked support from their wingers and midfield in key phases. There was little to offer upfront despite Jordan’s efforts to string attacks and control balls played to him.
Half time and a few changes, CoB looked more balanced and settled with Kyle slotting into the defensive line. Frank and Mat thwarted many attacks and covered each other with Jeevan deep to support. Droitwich were just fresher, fitter and had more subs at their disposal to rotate players and keep momentum going. This half would present CoB with glimpses but nothing more, Taimoor finding Noor and Jordan with a succession of shots stopped by their keeper. Noor was injured late on with a head injury following a Keeper clearance but was able to continue. A day to forget for the Men’s 1stXI though a spirited performance in the second half.
Next week they host Stourport 3s in a Home Double Header weekend.
