CoB hosted Bloxwich M4s with only 11 players available due to last minute unavailability of players and call ups to the Men’s 1stXI.
Despite this, both teams settled down well with strong tackles on both parts with defences and attacks trying their best to get a hold of the game. CoB were penned into their half for the opening 10 minutes, with Bloxwich pressing and working an opening. In the 10th minute, a bizarre scramble saw Edan play a ball out, only to deflect into the goal off his own player. A moment of confusion between players whilst umpires conferred (and quickly checked the rule book) a short corner was awarded after an explanation with both captains. Bloxwich were unable to make anything of their opportunity. CoB continued to scramble the ball out, Stan finding Anthony on several occasions who turned, passed and deflected balls on into great spaces. Ethen and Isa continued their impressive run of games, working hard to win the ball and James was ever present in the middle. Some chances were created with Ben, Ian and Jamie working well to move the ball across to find an opening but Bloxwich were able to thwart any advances.
Second half and the lights now on, to help with visibility (only to be impacted then by wind and rain) both teams had the chance to take a hold of the game. Jack was called in to make some saves whilst Bloxwich continued to knock on the door. CoB kept advancing, Stan working the ball well into the opposition’s 23 winning a short corner, slotting home from the injection from Ian. 1-0. Bloxwich weren’t down and out yet, still advancing, Anthony dropping into defence to support his team and continue his fine form. Ben continued to run the midfield and win balls to help advance the team and Matt late on, despite carrying an injury held up the ball well, at one stage helping create a 3v2 situation, but the visitors were wise to it.
Next week the Men’s 2ndXI host Lichfield 6 Development but have some notable absences
