A tough game in an afternoon fixture for our Men’s 1stXI. With a number of players unavailable, it made hard work of a game that needed some points scored for our side.
Marshalled by skipper Zach, CoB did their best to keep Old Hales at bay in the opening spells. Some exchanges in the middle of the park by the visitors were thwarted too easily with the hosts growing into the game more and more and making light work of the ball and space. It would be the hosts who took the lead with a well worked goal, before pressuring the defence again to double their lead. The visitors had few chances but made nothing of these, Noor being tackled well and Jordan holding up play without help. Old Hales continued to press in search of more and were rewarded before the break with their third.
Second half and a better performance, despite the loss of Junaid who had injured himself before the break and was unable to continue. 50-50 challenges were won but the visitors were penned in as Hales took the opportunity to command possession and move the ball freely. The defence this time stayed resolute, keeping their shape and working with the midfield to pick up loose players. Hales were unable to make further in roads and their first half lead was the difference at the end.
