After a 7 year absence, our Men’s 1stXI ventured again in the Midlands Super 6s Indoor Tier 2 competition. Having not had the chance to train Indoor, this was an opportunity to try something new and have fun.
An early start and 9:30am meet in Wolverhampton saw a squad of 7 make the trip, inviting back last season’s skipper Alex Makepeace to join. With 4 games planned for the day following late cry-offs from other teams, it was a day of hockey, of a different nature to enjoy.
First up, Cannock and a test for the team. Neal in goal was called into some great saves early on with Jeevan, Alex and Sohail combining to find Jordan and Kyle on occasion. Cannock, showed their dominance with several chances going wide. Second half and Cannock penned our Men back and scored two goals in quick succession. Sohail made a driving run to win a short corner with Alex taking the short corner and converting neatly at the near post. 2-1 the final score.
A short break before our next game, this time Kingswinford. Again the team worked well with Sean playing up front to support. A series of exchanges in possession saw Kingswinford take a 2-0 lead. Later offences by Kingswinford saw them end with 4 players, Sohail’s goal being ruled out in the final moments. 2-0 the final score.
A lunch break and up next was Bloxwich. With Neal departing, Alex went into goal for the game. Bloxwich worked the boards well and were able to win 2 short corners and converting neatly. One moment saw Alex clear the ball, but Bloxwich hunt back and score. Few outlets available but good work from the team with no subs. An injury late on to Sean meant his day would end early. 4-0 the final score.
Final game, Melton Mowbray, with a player down following Sean’s injury. Melton worked the ball well using the boards and made strides to lead 4-0 at the break. The opposition leant us a player in the second half, which saw our best performance of the day. Sohail, Kyle and Jeevan combined well to test Melton’s defence, a move saw Jordan pick out Kyle, playing a square ball to Jeevan to slot home. CoB continued to ask questions up until the final whistle. 4-1 the score.
A great day had by all, lots of smiles and positives and a chance to experience Indoor Hockey which the team have missed for so long!
