This week, skipper Edan was unavailable so it was left to Jack, Paul and Jeevan to support. CoB returned the favour from earlier in the season with an umpire, Jordan stepping up to travel and blow the whistle. With 9 players, a quiet start to the game for the visitors. Few chances and openings found themselves in the game with Peter and Andre enjoying chances down both flanks finding Asif and James well. James had a sterling first half, winning the ball back and playing the ball out wide to his wingers. Paul held firm at the back with Owen’s support, Jeevan and Ian just in front trying to control the game. CoB would be the first with chances, Jeevan’s cross narrowly wide of the goal from Asif’s deflection before another ball by Chagger saw James fire home the opener. Lichfield tried their earnestly to win back a goal and it wasn’t until the stroke of half time that the scores were leveled.
In the second half, Lichfield piled the pressure and Ian was injured several times. This disrupted the flow and control of the game that the visitors had, Lichfield penning two goals quickly before seeing out the game. At the end of the game, the team spent some time reflecting on the performance. Jeevan and Paul emphasised the importance of keeping heads up which the team did so well. Nobody walked away disheartened but actually pleased to have enjoyed the game and the chance to work that bit harder. Games like this are a learning curve for our side.
